It supplies both institutional partners (e.g., UNICEF, WFP) and the commercial market, and plays a significant role in national nutrition and food security efforts in Ethiopia and the broader East African region..

Hilina Enriched Foods PLC is an Ethiopian food manufacturing company established in 1998 with the core mission of producing high-quality, nutritious food products that help combat malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies, especially among children and vulnerable populations. Founded by Mr. Belete Beyene and his family, the company originally produced Vitamin A-enriched sugar and iodized salt for distribution through UN agencies, NGOs, and public markets. Over time, Hilina has expanded significantly in scope, infrastructure, and product range. A major turning point came in 2006, when Hilina signed a franchise agreement with Nutriset (France), enabling local production of Plumpy’Nut® — a ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) widely used globally to treat severe acute malnutrition. Since then, the company has also developed other therapeutic and nutritional products such as Plumpy’Sup™ (RUSF for moderate acute malnutrition) and enriched peanut butter.
